Hello and welcome back to Equity, a startup business podcast where we unpack the numbers and nuance behind the headlines.
We’re going full throttle again this week, so Mary Ann and Alex together with elegance behind the scenes took on our Friday show. Next week Natasha and Chris are back, and we’ll be doing our regular three-show lineup. Today, however, despite a smaller team, we had as much to chew on as ever:
- OpenSea’s epic new fundraiser: Alex did a bit of Fun Math on the company’s trading volume and potential total revenue. The bottom line is that OpenSea is big business. But with NFTs as volatile as they are, it will be difficult to chart regular growth.
- During our crypto chat, we also delved into the Web 2.0 vs. web3 debate that is raging.
- From there, we moved into fintech, commenting on Petal’s round of funding, Ribbit’s new fund, and how Mexican fintech Bankaya is going after its target customers through offline methods.
- Then it was comments about the dissonance of the private and public markets and a few moments to complain about COVID.
We’ll be back on Monday morning! Then chat!
