There was bad news if you’re on winter break and hoping to play some Fortnite, while Epic Games’ battle royale shooter went down for more than five hours on Wednesday — and this time, it wasn’t to expand the game’s lore. According to a tweet from his own status page, “Fortnite is currently unavailable and players will not be able to log in while we are investigating an issue. We will provide more information when we have a solution to bring services back online.”

A follow-up tweet at 3:10 PM ET of the team said they will “continue to work on a solution that will bring” Fortnite back online and appreciate everyone’s patience.” At 6pm ET, we hadn’t heard anything since, but around 6:30pm ET, players reported that the game was working again, which we were able to confirm.

The Fortnite Status Twitter Finally tweeted to confirm the game’s availability again, promising that next week (or next year) there will be details on “what we’re doing to help you make up for lost time.” It also noted that some people might see an additional in-game gift to open, but said the team is working on that.

Our very own senior entertainment editor Andrew Webster reported: struggle with the platform, who told many players: “You are not allowed to play” Fortnite.” The company began investigating the issue around 11 a.m. ET, before the servers went completely offline a few hours later.

When the servers initially went down, the Epic Games launcher wouldn’t even start Fortnite, which showed that the servers were offline, but later it would try to launch the game. Unfortunately, after launch, as many players have reported and we experienced in a test, it just queued you for ten minutes and then couldn’t connect. Now, as of 6:45 PM ET, the game will launch and players will be thrown straight into the action.

Around the same time the issue started, the Epic Games Store was also having issues with some players saying they couldn’t log in or even access their games to play offline. At least now the Epic Games desktop launcher works, so you can still play other games on your PC.
