Xiaomi has recently unveiled its latest affordable fitness band named ‘Mi Smart Band 4’ in India.
This 4th gen fitness tracker comes with a colour display, swim tracking and up to 20 days of battery life on a single charge.
The first band in the series didn’t even have a display and this latest fit band offers AMOLED color display with support for multiple watch faces.
Mi Smart Band 4 Review India
Mi Band 4 Design
The Mi Band 4 comes with a stylish design with rounded corners on all the sides.
There is a single capacitive button below the screen that enables you to control the device.
The plastic capsule fits perfectly into the silicone band leaving no signs of gaps.
Underneath the band (base) is where the heart rate sensor and charging pins are located.
The Smart Band 4 sports a 0.95 inch AMOLED display and the text looks crisp while the colors are excellent.
One can view it clearly under direct sunlight without any issues.
The silicone strap is also comfortable to wear for long hours. In fact you can wear it throughout the day and night (while sleeping) without even noticing it.
The user interface (UI) is pretty easy and straightforward. It is similar to the Mi Band 3.
You can swipe up or down in order to access different metrics like notifications, heart rate, workout information etc…
These lists (metrics) can also be customized using the Mi Fit app on your Smartphone.
Mi Band 4 Features (Performance)
The Mi Smart Band 4 comes with a lot of additional features like tracking different workouts including swimming, continuous heart rate monitoring, sleep monitoring and displaying app notifications.
There is also the Music control feature that lets you change the track without touching or lifting your mobile, directly from the band. It also displays the current track on the band.
The sleep assistant is an advanced algorithm that helps track your sleep data precisely.
When it comes to tracking accuracy, the Mi Band 4 has logged 1.5 km while our phone’s built-in GPS logged 1.3 km, that is 0.2 km difference.
But, if you grant access to your mobile GPS from the Mi Fit app, then the results are more accurate. However, your mobile gets discharged very quickly due to continuous usage of GPS.
When it comes to step tracking, the Mi Band 4 has logged 982 steps while we actually walked 1000 steps. This is very good considering the fact that the band does not come with built-in GPS.
The heart rate tracking is also fairly accurate, as well as the workout tracking feature, considering the price.
Sleep monitoring data was almost 95% accurate in our real-time results.
The band is swim-proof and can even track swimming sessions automatically.
The device displays app notifications (SMS, social media apps), caller ID, Emails etc…
Mi Smart Band 4 Battery Life
According to the company, the band comes with a battery life of 20 days. In the real-time tests, I got up to 15 days of battery life by using only sleep tracking and activity tracking features.
But, when I enabled continuous heart rate monitoring feature, the band lasted for about 2 to 3 days, which is very reasonable.
In order to charge the device, you’ll need to pluck out the capsule (band) out of the silicone strap and place it in the charger dock provided.
The charging dock design is a bit annoying as the band pops out occasionally while trying to insert it.
Mi Band 4 Companion App (Mi Fit)
Like always, the Mi Fit app UI is pretty decent and comes with better functionality.
You can find all your fitness metrics on the mobile app with advanced tracking details.
You can use the app to change watch faces as per your liking. There is also an option to create custom watch faces using your photos from the Gallery.
The app is available on both iOS and Android phones.
- Decent looking Design
- Vibrant Display; Visible under Sunlight
- Fairly Accurate Tracking
- Custom Watch faces
- Custom vibration patterns for notifications
- Pretty long battery life
- Amazing companion app
- Proprietary charger design is annoying
The Mi Smart Band 4 from Xiaomi is another budget friendly device from the Mi Band lineup.
The display, tracking accuracy, features and comfort levels are pretty good and we loved it.
The only issue that we have is the proprietary charger that is a bit annoying to use at times due to its design.
For the price of Rs.2299, there is no better alternative than the Mi Fitness Band 4.
