Here’s our review of Sennheiser’s latest Momentum Wireless 2 earbuds.

Brand: Sennheiser

Product: Momentum True Wireless 2

Key specs: ANC, voice assistant support, 7 hours battery life, 7mm dynamic drivers and Bluetooth 5.0

Price: 24,990

Rating: 4/5

Call me basic, but there’s a certain appeal to technology wrapped in fabric. And that’s especially true for the Momentum True Wireless 2 earbuds. But can they live up to their hefty price tag? 24,000 to beat the Sonys and Jabras of the world? Let’s find out.

The Momentum True Wireless 2 builds on the same design as its predecessor, you have the same charging case, albeit in a darker shade and overall a similar minimalist look. However, the earbuds themselves are a bit smaller, only a few millimeters or so, but are still very large for my ears. While they fit well in the ear hole, they stick out a bit too much for my taste and are therefore a bit uncomfortable in the long run.

The outside of the buds features a touch-sensitive brushed metal surface. It allows you to switch songs and switch other functions, such as Google Assistant and active noise cancellation. The controls are otherwise quite intuitive, playback options on the left earbuds, voice assistant and noise canceling stuff on the right. You can set the behavior of various gestures within the app.

This is the area where these earbuds really shine. With the EQ set to neutral, these earbuds sound a little warm to my ears, great for listening to rock and blues music. If you want some more pop and EDM tunes, just boost the frequencies in the rather gaudy looking EQ in the app.

I would like to point out that these have excellent spatial resolution considering the size of these earbuds, which means you can perceive different instruments at different distances very well.

The active noise cancellation is… there. And that’s the best way to say it. You can’t choose the ANC level – it’s just on or off. And it works well indoors; just don’t expect them to turn off a jet engine (not that you would fly fast). Just know that turning it on would drain the battery much faster.

The hear-through function is really well implemented on the Momentum Wireless 2. It lets you hear your surroundings by using the built-in microphones, and you can choose their intensity. And the same microphone array also gives you great voice quality during a phone call. That’s a rarity on such small earbuds.

Connectivity and Bundled App

Connecting to the Momentum True Wireless 2 on a smartphone is quite simple. I really wish it would support Android’s quick pairing feature at this price point, but it doesn’t. What’s good is that you have one Bluetooth connection for both earbuds, meaning you don’t have to pair the two earbuds separately. The app is also quite slick, without many complications. And the buttons also get regular updates. During the week, the buttons received 2 major firmware updates, which significantly improved battery consumption.

But as with most earbuds, the app’s bells and whistles only work on smartphones and not PCs, which is very disappointing. I would also like to have PC software for switching between ANC and Hearing.

battery life

The Momentum True Wireless 2 is a battery winner, going nearly five days without a charge. The earbuds themselves can last for more than five hours and the charging case offers a further 21 hours of playtime. And the buds only take about 15 minutes to give you an hour of fun.

While it looks mostly positive for the Momentum True Wireless 2 in our review, it has a few things that make you consider other options. Since Sennheiser decided to go with a cloth cover on the case, it cannot be charged wirelessly. The company also said the decision not to include wireless charging was based on user feedback. This may be a problem for some, but we’ve forgiven it for nearly a week of battery life. And along with the earbuds, the housing is also quite large and prone to stains from all kinds of things because of the fabric. And it’s as expensive as hell, about 24,990.

To top it off, the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 is a great choice for those with deep pockets and big ears looking for a fantastic audio experience.
